Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Casablanca - Rabat - Meknes - Volubilis - Fes
Pick up from your hotel in Casablanca and visit the impressive Hassan II Mosque, which is built by the Atlantic Ocean dominating the horizons of Casablanca. It is a masterpiece of architecture depicting the Moroccan & Andalusian craftsmenship. We will then drive to Rabat, the administrative capital of Morocco, and home of the king and the royal family.
We will explore the Oudayas Kasbah, which has a rich history dating back to the 12th century when the Almohad warriors decided to turn it into a point of organizing attacks against the Spanish and the Portuguese. Visit the dramatic Mohammed V Mausoleum where the grand father, father and uncle of the king are burried. The building itself is an example of the Moroccan & Andalusian architcure with its white marble brought from Italy, tiles, geometric designs and stucco-work.
Near the Mohammed V Mausoleum is the dramatic Hassan Tower, which was a big project by the Almohad Sultan Abu Yusuf Yaqub Al Mansur (the victorious) to turn into the largest mosque in the Islamic World. However, the project did not complete because the Sultan died after three years of work.
We will continue on the track to the charming and mysterious imperial city of Meknes. It was founded by the Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century who turned into a Moroccan Versailles. We will start our tour by the impressive Bab Mansour, then drive through the high-walls of the royal palace to the royal granaries and stables.
We will the drive to Fes through the Roman Ruins of Volubilis where we will learn about the Roman civilisation in the north of Africa.
Day 2: Full-Day Exploring Fes
Today, you will spend the day exploring the best of Fes with a local private tour guide starting with a nice drive uphill to enjoy the panoramic view of the Fes el-Bali. The Fes el-Bali is listed by the UNESCO as a world heritage site and is the largest car-free district in the world. Take pictures by the golden gates of the royal palace, then meander around the Mellah (Jewsih Quarter) before heading to the old Medina.
Wander around the bustling Medina with its intricate alleyways, bustling cafes and vibrant Souks. We will pass by the Qarawiyyin Mosque, which is the oldest university in the world. Visit the Chouara Tanneries where you can learn about how the process of making the best quality of leather using traditional techniques.
You will then visit the bustling Souks that are organized into sections based on the specialty before escorting you back to the Riad/hotel.
Day 3: Fes - Ifrane - Midelt - Ziz Valley - Merzouga Desert
We will start early at 07:30 am with a journey down to the Sahara desert of Erg Chebbi. Stop by the charming city of Ifrane, which is often called the Switzerland version city of Moroco and was selected the second cleanest city in the world in 2015.
Have a shot break in the cedar forest of the lush Middle-Atlas with its endangered Barbary Macaques that are known for their friendliness. After having lunch in the city of Midelt or Zaida, we will cross the spectacular high-Atlas Mountains offering panoramic views. Take pictures by the Ziz Valley before arriving to Merzouga desert through Erfoud.
Upon arrival in Erg Chebbi, you will go for a camel trek experience enjoying the miraculous views of the sunset. Get to the luxury desert camp where you will have a nice meal for dinner under the stars or inside our tented restaurant. You may want to enjoy your time with the staff members as they perform a traditional music with drums and castanets.
Day 4: Merzouga Desert - Erfoud - Todra Gorge - Dades Valley
Early wake up in the morning, we will invite you to climb up the sand dune to attend the majestic view of the sunrise. After having breakfast under the sunlight and after taking a refreshing shower, we will resume our journey further west to the lush Dades Valley.
We will include a short break in the city of Erfoud known for fossil factories and dates. Stretch your legs in the impressive Todra Gorge (Canyon) that has been attraction to mountain climbers and nature seekers.
Day 5: Dades Valley - Nomad Caves - Valley of Roses - Ouarzazate
After having breakfast in your hotel/Riad, we will head to Ouarzazate (Hollywood of Africa) driving through the mountains before reaching to the caves where the nomads live. We will visit them, share a mint tea with them and learn about their unique style of life.
Have a drive through the valley of the Roses where you can learn about their produce including rose water, lotions, soaps and much more. Visit the dramatic Amridil Kasbh in the palm oasis of Skoura before arriving to Ouarzazate in the late afternoon where we will spend our fifth night.
Day 6: Ouarzazate - Ait Benhaddou - High Atlas - Marrakech
Today, we will head to Marrakech while visiting the Atlas Film Studios and the Ait Benhaddou Village. It is listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site consisting of many Kasbahs (fortresses) that have a strategic location in the former caravan route that used to connect Marrakech with the Sahara and the high-Atlas Mountains.
After lunch, we will cross the Atlas Mountains over the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260 m). Enjoy the panoramic views along the way before arriving to Marrakech in the late afternoon.
